Biography
The Babaz are a Kenyan trio built on the meeting of three distinct musical voices: Baraza, Ras Amor and Mathai Njama. Based in Nairobi, they write, produce and perform their own music, bringing individual artistry into a collective sound.
Afro-pop, R&B, blues, rhumba, rock and soul sit side by side in their songs. The thread running through them is personal storytelling: love and loss, joy and self-discovery, carried by melodies and rhythms made to move people.
Their chemistry is central to the work. Each member arrives with a solo story; together, they make space for something none of them could create alone.
The members
Ras Amor
Singer, songwriter, producer
Afro-soul, Afro-fusion, R&B and pop, in a practice centred on feeling and melody. His EP Amor was released on 14 February 2025.
Baraza
Singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist
Guitar, bass and piano under a soulful voice, moving between Afro-fusion, soul and contemporary Kenyan sounds.
Mathai Njama
Singer, songwriter, guitarist
A guitar-led songwriter rooted in blues, rock and roll, and soul. A Sauti Academy graduate whose first EP is Matter Of The Man.
