Biography

For Mathai Njama, the guitar is the starting point. Picking up the instrument at a young age led him towards blues, rock and roll, and soul, drawing inspiration from John Mayer, Jimi Hendrix and James Brown.

A Sauti Academy graduate, he released his first EP, Matter Of The Man, and has performed at Engage, Sofar Sounds, Nakili Sessions and Beneath the Baobab.

His songs turn personal experience into a conversation with the listener. That guitar-led sensibility brings another voice to The Babaz’s musical language.

Solo releases
